🌿 How Lyocell Fabric is Made

• Wood Harvesting

1. Sustainably grown trees (like eucalyptus or beech) are harvested.

2. These trees grow quickly and often require little water or pesticides.

• Pulp Production

1. The wood is chipped and processed into a soft pulp using non-toxic solvents.

2. The pulp is cleaned and dried into sheets.

• Solvent Spinning

1. The dried wood pulp sheets are dissolved in a non-toxic, biodegradable solvent (N-Methylmorpholine N-oxide or NMMO).

2. This process forms a clear, thick liquid.

• Fiber Extrusion

1. The liquid solution is pushed through fine nozzles (spinnerets) to form long fibers.

2. These fibers are then cooled in a water bath to solidify.

• Washing & Drying

1. The new fibers are washed to remove any remaining solvent (which is recovered and reused—up to 99.5%).

2. Then, the fibers are dried and cut into lengths to be spun into yarn.

• Spinning & Weaving

1. The fibers are spun into yarn and woven or knit into soft, breathable fabric used in clothing, bedding, and more.
